MythBusters co-host Jamie Hyneman impressed by the novelty of Soletair Power’s carbon capture method

Jamie Hyneman, who co-hosted the popular TV show MythBusters with Adam Savage, visited Finnish carbon capture company Soletair Power on May 27, 2022.

Mr. Jamie Hyneman is globally well-known for the popular Discovery Channel program MythBusters. He is currently the owner of M5 Industries, a company specializing in creating special effects for advertisements and movies. Hyneman also developed unique objects, such as a remote-controlled tank for 7Up and an exclusive two-wheeled shoe for Nike. His visit to the “Factory of The Future” in Lappeenranta was part of his journey to support the solvers of remarkable challenges.

Soletair Power’s CEO Mr. Petri Laakso explained to Jamie Hyneman the technology to capture carbon dioxide directly from the air. Atmospheric CO2 can be captured straight from the installation site using Soletair Power’s containerized system. Customers can retrofit the system with buildings’ existing HVAC and get emission-offset benefits as well as CO2-lean air indoors. It increases human cognitive function scores. CEO Petri shared the strategies for integrating carbon capture solutions into commercial buildings across the globe.

Mr. Hyneman said that it was an insightful discussion and the innovations impressed him. He expressed his continuous support for such solutions that tackle problems of the twenty-first century.

Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage shot roughly 248 episodes of the popular TV show MythBusters together. Over 1,000 myths turned out to be true or were busted. Hyneman taught at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and is an honorary lifetime member of the California Science Teachers Association. He has held jobs as a diver, captain and concrete inspector, and now gives lectures at universities around the world in addition to his duties as the owner of M5 Industries. Jamie Hyneman has been appointed as LUT University’s Professor of Practice for a five-year term from November 15, 2021, to November 14, 2026.
